Salute To Seniors at Disney!
With that, let’s start at the top. And I’ll admit I’m taking a little liberty with this collection of ideas from the Disney For Seniors Facebook Group. Exactly, what is meant by ‘Salute to Seniors!’?
It would be a week or longer in duration every year, where Disney celebrates those guests within the Senior market segment. This would occur during what would otherwise be an off peak time at Disneyland or Walt Disney World. We can look to the Disney Vacation Club points charts created and maintained by Disney. The months of January, September and the first ½ of May each year (except of course for RunDisney weekends) are off peak times at Disney parks.
The idea would be to provide temporary discounts for seniors to provide financial motivation for more seniors and their families to visit Disney Parks. During these off peak times of the year discounts for seniors can range from Park admission tickets for out of state guests, to discounts at all or a selection of Disney resorts and hotels, discounts at Disney Park and Disney resort restaurants, Park merchandise, and so on.
What a great way to celebrate and honor seniors. And it is not something that would last an entire year…..just a week or longer.
And, yes, Disney would not have to use AARP’s definition of a senior; it’s their Parks and Resorts so they can use any definition they want….those 70 years old and older, or those 65 years old and older … and so on.
Park Admission Offerings for All Seniors at Disney
Next up were suggestions put forth on providing senior discounts to Disney’s existing Park Admission ticket offerings.
Presently Disney does not offer any type of Senior specific discount for Park admission……at Walt Disney World or Disneyland. It does at its Shanghai Disney and Hong Kong Disney Resort theme parks…….significant senior park admission discounts. When seniors are fortunate enough to retire, many may have more free time but are not going to have as much disposable income. As they get older, their available disposable income and funds typically becomes even less. This discount could be applied only to some of the current park admission offerings such as those with blackout dates or to all existing Park admission tickets.
Different Types of Park Admission Tickets for Seniors
Several wanted a return of the ‘After 4 pm’ Park Admission tickets that Disney used to provide.
Yet the largest number of comments provided was to have a new type of park admission offering wich included access to shows but not to most or all ride type of attractions. Many seniors said they simply enjoy being within the Disney park environment and do need or do not feel comfortable any more going on ride type of attractions in the parks.
