How To Enjoy Walt Disney World Without Going Into The Parks?

How to Enjoy Walt Disney World Specific to Disney’s Fort Wilderness

  • We stay at fort wilderness so tons of stuff to do there. Scavenger hunt on Facebook where you hide/find stuff, horse back riding, carriages, tennis, pool, bike, canoe, shuffleboard, bow, campfire movies, fireworks, plus we ride Disney transport (busses, monorail, boat, sky ride) to the different resorts for shopping and dinner. We are fully entertained.
  • Looping in the golf cart is my husband’s favorite ride. I have always loved just hanging out in the stables. We count turkeys, deer, raccoons, bats, rabbits, and birds. I heard and finally saw a chuck-will’s-widow for the first time in the back of the 1500 loop. Always have a great resort only stay at the Fort.
  • There are 2 big ones. Disney Villains Fort Wilderness Scavenger Hunt and Original Fort Wilderness scavenger hunts you can find them with the links here hopefully. There are other ones that do adult only ones too. Once you are on those, they should show up in your group suggestions. It all started during Covid. It’s pretty cool. Found a prize with my granddaughters and have loved it ever since. They love hiding as much or more than finding. One more suggestion: bring flashlights

Specific to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

Disney's Animal KIngdom Lodge
  • Go visit Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. They have areas inside the Lodge that have Savannah views…you are welcome to walk way down the halls to the end to view from public windows. You can see some animals from the grounds near the fire pit. Just go explore!
    • There is a viewing area of the small savanna at Animal Kingdom Lodge. You aren’t looking inside the park but there are still many animals to view. The Lodge itself is interesting, decorated with African art. The restaurants are good too, even Mara, which is the quick service spot, where you can enjoy the famous Zebra Domes for dessert or just with coffee.
  • Lunch at the animal kingdom lodge (you don’t have to stay there) and watch the animals while you eat then you can go outside and see the animals as well. They also offer safaris, yet I have not done that, I’m sure that is expensive. You also don’t have to dine at the restaurant to go see the animals or just get an appetizer. I have not been to their quick service but I’m sure they have one.

Outdoor Activities

Enjoy Walt Disney World at Disney's Winter Summerland Miniature Golf
  • We enjoy golf at the various courses as well as a trip to the Tampa Zoo
  • Play some mini golf!
  • At 9:00 in the morning at the Wilderness Lodge they do a walking tour of History of the lodge. It is completely accessible; you are on your feet for the entire time and it’s free and it’s wonderful!
  • We played Fantasia mini golf, rented motor boats, rode horses, rode the surrey bikes at the BoardWalk and enjoyed the BoardWalk Promanade carnival of things. We did Disney Springs, window shopping and grabbing lunch out—saved the leftovers for supper. As well, we took transportation and toured the resorts, hung out on the beach at the Polynesian to watch the sunset and the fireworks.
