2. Only One Side of Bed Has a Night Table

Next is one of my pet peeves for any hotel room. Why do so many, including at Walt Disney World, have a night stand on only one side of the bed.

Were, or where is the person sleeping on ‘that’ side of the bed supposed to put at night all the things they may need ot or wish to reach while in bed, including:

  • eye glasses,
  • bottle of watter,
  • pill box,
  • CPAP machine,
  • book,
  • smartphone (while charging?),
  • apple watch,
  • and more?

And, speaking of charging electronic devices, the outlet on the wall on the right in the picture below is useless for the person who is sleeping on that side of the bed. What? They are supposed to charge their smart phone or Magic Band from that outlet?

3. Electrical Outlets For Charging

There are many, many things to like about Disney’s Grand Floridian. This includes the Disney Vacation Club deluxe studio units. Having an actual freezer section of the mini fridge in the Deluxe Studios is great.

However, one of them is not the location of the electric outlets in the rooms which guests can use to recharge their smart devices (phone, tablet, laptop, etc.), their Magic Band+. Inside the night stand on the one side of the bed there is one electrical outlet, a USB and USB C outlet. Yet, I can tell you from personal experience, they are not easy to use as they are buried back underneath the top shelf.

As well, for those who use scooters such guests need electrical outlets to recharge their vehicles. And those electrical outlets need to be easily accessible, not requiring guests to get down on their hands and knees. There are two electrical outlets but they are very low to the ground and are hidden by this table. You would not even know they were there unless you got low to see for yourself.

Sure there are electrical outlets in the bathroom with the one sink. Yet, I don’t think I want my smart phone or tablet plugged into an electrical outlet where there is water close by.

Lastly, here is a picture once again of the kitchenette. Yet, there is a pair of electrical outlets partially in use by the coffee maker and toaster.

4. Narrow Balcony at Lake View Deluxe Studio at Villas of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

If you have mobility challenges, please be aware that in general the balconies at Disney Vacation Club units are not deep at all, regardless of unit size. Here is a picture of the balcony we had for our Lake View Deluxe Studio unit at the Villas of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. You could stand on it, yet it might be a challenge if you are trying to move to the one side to sit and relax.

5. Step In Shower – The Good and The …

This one is a safety issue. Please be careful.

Below is a picture of the step up bathtub in the one side of the split bathroom from our Deluxe Studio. It is rare that you will see for any bathtub in any Disney resort that is not an ADA unit a grab bar. That is wonderful. It does beg the question: If Disney could install a grab bar here, why not for all bathtubs in all Disney resorts?

Now, what about the step in shower. Having a step in shower is great for those with mobility challenges. And, bonus, there is a bench where you can sit if you need to during your shower.

Yet, if Disney could install a grab bar in the bathtub, why could Disney not install a grab bar in the step in shower? The floor of the shower will be wet during the shower making the tile floor just as slippery as the bathrub. Seniors, please be careful here.

That bar that the towel is resting on is not a grab bar; it is a tower rack. And for many it is not reachable when sitting on the bench inside the shower.

  1. Thanks for this article. These villas are really not good for seniors at all. Not only are the issues you presented a real problem, but from the pictures it seems like the whole villa is rather cramped. We stayed at a 2 bedroom villa at Boulder Ridge last visit and they were fabulous.
