Are you concerned about navigating Disney with a scooter? Perhaps it is your first time and you are concerned about keeping up with the rest of your party while at the Disney Parks. Perhaps you are concerned about the rental process itself. Renting a scooter at Walt Disney World is a decision you won’t regret.
A Little Backstory Before Experiencing Disney With a Scooter
My husband suffered from a bad knee for nearly 40 years. This past summer, we visited Disney without renting a scooter. While we had a great time, the experience was challenging. We constantly had to stop for him to rest, and his slower pace meant we couldn’t cover as much ground as we wanted.
In November, he underwent a full knee replacement. Just three weeks later, we were back at Walt Disney World to celebrate my 65th birthday—this time with a scooter. After a five-minute tutorial on how to operate the scooter and a ten-minute trial run around the resort’s lobby, he was a pro. He even admitted, “I should have used a scooter back in July.”
The Convenience of Renting
The process of renting a scooter is seamless. We rented the scooter from a local company that specializes in Disney rentals. They delivered it directly to our resort and picked it up when we were finished. We didn’t have to worry about logistics or transporting the scooter ourselves. When we arrived at the resort, it was waiting for us—fully charged and ready to go.
Charging the scooter overnight is simple and convenient. [EDITOR’S NOTE: While many resorts have outlets located outside the guest rooms, it is strongly recommended to charge your scooters inside your guest room or with Guest Services …. not in the hotel or resort’s hallway. There are fire safety code requirements requiring certain minimum width in hallways for emergency evacuation situations.]
I do think the room was spacious enough to accommodate the scooter if needed. For reference, we stayed at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge – Jambo House in a Savanna View hotel room 2519.
Easy to Operate
Scooters are easy to operate, even with minimal instruction. The Disney Cast Member who welcomed us at the resort also provided a quick scooter tutorial. Within minutes, my husband felt confident driving it. The controls are intuitive, and the speed is easy to adjust. With a maximum speed of just 3 mph, there’s no worry about the scooter getting away.
Using the scooter greatly enhanced our Disney experience. In the past, my husband often lagged behind and struggled to keep up. With the scooter, he could keep pace. He no longer felt like he was holding me back. In fact, there were a few times when I was “jogging” to keep up with him!
Vacationing at Disney with a scooter allowed both of us to navigate the parks with ease. Whether we were heading to the next attraction, browsing shops, or finding a place to eat, we could get there quickly and comfortably. We found Disney’s shops and restaurants at Walt Disney World are well designed. They generally have with plenty of room for scooters to move around comfortably. My husband never felt cramped or in the way.
Accessibility Features at Disney With a Scooter
The Disney bus transportation system is very accommodating to those riding scooters. The buse waiting areas have a separate space specifically for scooters to park (as shown in the featured picture for this article), and the process is designed to be as smooth as possible. Scooters are the first ones to board and the last ones to disembark.

All the drivers were more than happy to assist! Each bus can carry up to two or three (depending on the bus) scooters at a time. During busy periods, there might be a short wait if the bus is already full of passengers. The drivers are patient and assist in ensuring the scooter is securely parked and the passenger buckled in before other passengers board.
